(Fort Worth, TX) — The Fort Worth man once known as the “affluenza teen” is now freed from his ankle monitor, by order of a Tarrant County judge.

Ethan Couch was 16 when he killed four people in a 2013 drunk driving crash near Burleson.  A judge sentenced him to probation after the defense attorney claimed Couch’s wealthy upbringing kept him from learning right from wrong.  Couch was later jailed for two years for fleeing to Mexico with his mom, in violation of his probation.  Couch, who’s now 21, had to wear the monitor as a condition of his release last April.

The Tarrant County D-A’s Office says the judge didn’t consult with them about removing it.
