(Lubbock, Tx) – The city of Lubbock is condemning students who turned to vandalism to celebrate Texas Tech’s Final Four basketball victory over Michigan State.
Thousands of students flooded the streets Saturday night, flipping cars and building bonfires in the streets. Police in riot gear eventually fired tear gas to disperse the crowds. City officials said Tech fans need to celebrate lawfully. The University has cancelled classes for tonight and tomorrow.
Tonight, the Texas Tech men will try to duplicate what the Baylor women did, win the national championship. The Red Raiders and Virginia meet in the NCAA title game in Minneapolis. The last Lone Star state team to win the men’s crown was Texas Western, now known as Texas-El Paso, in 1966.
