(Austin, TX) —  A bill that would allow school districts to permit school marshals to carry firearms openly on campus now has the approval of the state Senate.

Current law requires marshals to store their handguns in a safe or lockbox, or to wear them concealed when they’re armed.  The bill approved Wednesday in a party-line vote would let school districts and charter school governing boards decide the matter of open-carry for their campus marshals.

The measure now goes to the House.
