(Austin, TX) —  The “Save Chick-fil-A” bill now has the initial approval of the Texas Senate after a mostly party-line vote on Wednesday.

Supporters say the bill protects religious liberty by barring governments from punishing businesses or people because of their membership in a religious organization or donations to faith-based groups.  Opponents call it official approval of discrimination.

The bill is in response to the San Antonio City Council’s rejection of Chick-fil-A as a vendor at the city airport because of the company’s donations to faith-based groups that support only heterosexual marriage.
