(Fort Worth, TX) — The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office will continue to flag or detain illegal immigrants who’ve been arrested, for at least the next year.
County commissioners voted Tuesday to stay in a federal program that allows specially trained jailers to check the legal status of suspects and to work with immigration agents. Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn says his deputies detained nearly 500 illegals in the last year, who were arrested for crimes unrelated to immigration laws.
The Sheriff says about 70-percent were repeat offenders.
