(Mineral Wells, Tx) – Hundreds of people showed up in front of the Baker Hotel in downtown Mineral Wells Thursday for an announcement about the redevelopment of the historic property.

To a cheering crowd, developer Laird Fairchild said, “We have bought the Baker Hotel & we will begin the restoration immediately”.  Laird also talked about the hundreds of jobs that would be created by the project.  The 14 story hotel first opened in 1929 with pools boasting of healing mineral waters, but closed in 1972.   In 1982 it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.  This November, The Baker will turn 90.

The $65 million restoration of the Baker Hotel & Spa is expected to take 3 years to complete.
