(Fort Worth, Tx) – Several bright yellow banners displayed along Main Street in downtown Cowtown have drawn looks and complaints to the city.

The banners read “In No God We Trust” and they were put up Tuesday afternoon by the non-profit group, Metroplex Atheists, to promote an event they’re holding in Fort Worth on the 14th.  After the city started getting complaints, Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price posted a statement from the city on Twitter that read in part “City of Fort Worth Banner Policy and Procedures allows a non/not-for-profit to place banners within the public right-of-way for the purpose of promoting the organization or special event held by the organization.”

Mayor Price went on to say personally “…I do not support or agree with the message. While many of us may not agree with the message, the organization did follow policies and procedures set forth by the City & Downtown Fort Worth, Inc.”  Price says city regulations dictate that the banners must come down within 5 days following the event.

Overnight, some of the banners were slashed.
