Fort Worth Commission To Vote On Fate Of Former KKK Venue

(Fort Worth, TX) — A Fort Worth commission on historic buildings has 180 days to convince the owners of a former home of the Ku Klux Klan not to tear it down.

The red brick auditorium on North Main was built in 1924 and was reportedly the last purpose-built KKK venue in the country. The Klan used the building for seven years, after which it was a storage space for a department store, then a factory for a pecan company.

The owners want to demolish it to make way for commercial use. Others want to turn it into a performing arts venue to promote racial healing.
