(Erath, Tx) – A hay baling accident has claimed the life of a 69-year-old Erath County woman.

The Stephenville Empire Tribune reports Sandy Steele died after she reportedly became trapped in a hay baler while working outside with her husband Saturday.  It happened at a property off Hwy. 281 between Stephenville and Hico.  The Erath County Sheriff’s Office said Deputies discovered Steele already dead when they got there and that her cause of death is under investigation.

Steele led the non-profit, Basic Needs Ministry at Graham Street Church of Christ, that provides food and clothing to those in need.  According to Farm Injury Resource Center, hundreds of accidents involving hay balers occur every year.
