(Aledo, Tx) – Aledo school board of trustees have begun discussions on implementing a new vaping policy and the expansion of the district’s random drug testing program.
The policy changes were topics at Monday night’s school board meeting. Administrators told the board that e-cigarettes and vaping had become a problem at the high school, because there are dozens of different devices that are small and easy to hide. According to the Weatherford Democrat, the proposed student code of conduct vaping policy will include three offenses along with educational programs for the student and parent.
A first-time offense will include three days of in school suspension and a vaping awareness program that the student will have to complete within a certain period of time. A third offense will send the student to alternative school. The proposed changes to the drug testing program will include all students in grades 9 through 12, involved in any UIL program and some select extracurricular activities. Urine tests will be conducted 8 to 10 times a year and include about 100 students each test.
