(Fort Worth, TX) — The Tarrant County Health Department is warning the public about the discovery of a rabid bat at the Fort Worth Water Gardens.

The bat was found in the water on July 15th, and later tested positive for rabies.  Officials are asking anyone who may have come into contact with the bat to call animal control as soon as possible.

People can be exposed to rabies by being bitten or scratched by a rabid animal.  Just touching a rabid animal or its droppings does not constitute exposure.
