(Undated) — Communities in North Texas are beginning cleanup this morning after fierce storms, including a tornado, spread heavy damage across the region.
Classes are canceled at more than 20 schools in Dallas because of damage and all schools in Midlothian are closed because of power outages. The tornado that plowed a 17-mile swath of destruction across north and northeast Dallas sent at least six people to area hospitals, but no fatalities have been reported. Winds over 100 miles an hour snapped trees and power poles, knocking out electricity to about 130-thousand people in North Texas.
The National Weather Service is confirming that a tornado touched down near Dallas Love Field shortly after 9 pm, and again near the city limits of Richardson and Garland, just before 9:30 pm.
