(White Settlement, TX) — Officials in North Texas are crediting armed churchgoers with heroism for stopping a gunman who opened fire Sunday morning at a church in White Settlement.
The church members were part of a trained security team at the West Freeway Church of Christ. They returned fire and stopped the gunman just seconds after he shot two men, likely saving the lives of other church members. Both men later died at the hospital, the gunman also died. One victim was identified by his daughter as 64-year-old Anton “Tony” Wallace, a deacon and lifelong member of the church.
Local police and DPS are working with the FBI to try to find the motive behind the shooting. The gunman has not yet been identified.
On a personal note, longtime 92.1 personality Ron Moore is a member and church elder at West Freeway Church of Christ and was in the congregation at the time of the shooting. He joined KB & Marlee on the morning show Monday to talk about the outpouring of support the church has received from the community.
