North Texas Airlines To Receive Billions In Grants And Loans

(Dallas, TX) — Southwest Airlines and American Airlines will each receive billions of dollars in federal grants and loans.

The local carriers made the announcement on Tuesday. Dallas-based Southwest will receive just over three-billion, and Fort Worth-based American will receive nearly $6 billion. Most of the money for each airline is in the form of direct payroll grants, as a condition of which they agreed not to lay off any employees through the end of September.

American also plans to apply for a separate loan of nearly five-billion-dollars from the Treasury.
