(Austin, TX) — Texas Governor Greg Abbott is promising the state’s hospital capacity is fine despite a spike in coronavirus cases.
He told reporters there are an abundant amount of beds while also noting less than 10% of those who contract the virus end up having to be hospitalized. Abbott also says a 500-case spike in the Beaumont area was due to test results from multiple prisons being reported all at once. The governor added a 92-case spike in Pecos was a data error which involved only two reported cases. He also noted Collin County will report 120 new positive tests with most from an assisted living facility. Hays County also reported a spike in numbers, but Abbott said those were due to multiple batches being grouped together.
He encouraged people, especially those under the age of 30, to practice social distancing and be careful while going out. Bars were also encouraged to make sure regulations are followed. There are more than 28,000 active coronavirus cases in Texas.
