(Austin, TX)  —  Gov. Greg Abbott is giving mayors and county judges in Texas greater ability to regulate outdoor gatherings of more than 100 people.

Abbott had previously only allowed local leaders to place restrictions on gatherings of 500 people or more.

The governor also directed the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to step up enforcement of health and safety procedures related to coronavirus for child care centers in Texas.
