(Waxahachie, TX) — The Waxahachie ISD says its Indian mascot isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
A couple of college roommates who are Waxahachie ISD alumni have started a petition to change what they describe as the district’s “offensive native American theming.” A district spokesperson says local Native Americans were consulted several years ago and they said the mascot shouldn’t be changed.
The spokesperson says the district reviews the use of the mascot every five years, and right now it’s approved through 2023.
