(Fort Worth, TX) — Tarrant County Public Health is reporting its first West Nile virus death of the year.

The death reported on Tuesday is also the first reported human case of the virus in 2020.  The patient was an elderly adult from Fort Worth who had underlying medical conditions.  The most recent previous human case in Tarrant County was last August, and the most recent death almost a year earlier.

Tarrant County Health officials are reminding residents to use bug spray, wear long sleeves and pants, and drain standing water where mosquitoes breed.
