(Weatherford, TX) — Weatherford police and the Parker County Sheriff’s Office say they’ll comment today about a weekend scuffle over a Confederate veterans statue.
A few dozen protesters calling for the removal of the statue from the Parker County courthouse lawn marched to the location on Saturday. They were confronted by hundreds of counter-protesters who say they were there to protect the monument from vandalism. A number of fights broke out and two people were arrested, but no injuries were reported.
Parker County Judge Pat Deen says the Daughters of the Confederacy own the statue and want to remove it, but don’t have the money needed for the job.
