(Austin, TX)  —  Governor Greg Abbott says the southeast and eastern portions of Texas need to be ready for Hurricane Laura.

Abbott says powerful winds are expected to hit parts of the state when Laura makes landfall early Thursday.  He expects plenty of devastation from the winds and is also worried about storm surge along the coast.

Because of the anticipated storm surge and flash flooding, Abbott added 36 more counties to the state disaster declaration on Tuesday.
