(Austin, TX)  —  North Texas hair salon owner Shelley Luther and state Representative Drew Springer are on their way to a runoff for state Senate District 30.

In Tuesday’s special election, Luther and Springer each got about 31% of the vote, with Springer finishing ahead of Luther by fewer than 100-votes.  Neither candidate got 50%, so a runoff will be necessary.  Luther gained statewide political fame when she was jailed in May for reopening her Salon à la Mode in Dallas despite Gov. Greg Abbott’s pandemic-related closure orders.

Luther lives in Denton County, Springer grew up in Weatherford and now lives in Muenster.  District 30 runs from Wichita Falls down to Stephenville and includes the areas of Weatherford, Mineral Wells, Graham, Jacksboro and Decatur.
