(Austin, TX) — State Rep. Drew Springer is the winner of the runoff election for a state Senate seat in north Texas.
Springer defeated Shelley Luther in Saturday’s runoff, winning 56% of the vote. Luther is the owner of a Dallas salon who was briefly jailed earlier this year for refusing to close her business during a pandemic shutdown order. Gov. Greg Abbott endorsed Springer in the election.
Both candidates are Republicans and were running to fill a Senate seat vacated by Senator Pat Fallon, who successfully ran for the U.S. House in November.
District 30th includes Archer, Clay, Erath, Jack, Palo Pinto, Parker, Wichita, Wise and Young counties.
