(Granbury, Tx) – Hood County residents have noticed a thick, white foam covering the top of the water at the end of a canal in Lake Granbury near Montego Bay Court.
According to the Hood County News, a similar incident on the Brazos River occurred earlier this year, where visitors had reported seeing a foamlike substance on parts of the river. The Brazos River Authority says foam is most often the result of natural process – a combination of the turbulent water caused by recent storms, upstream water releases, and a build-up of dissolved carbon and phosphate in lake and river sediment from runoff. Natural foam can smell fishy or earthy and can vary in color from white to brown.
BRA says it should clear up when the water release ceases and the flow returns to normal. A report from the agency says natural foam is of no threat to human health, can last for a few days or even a week, but it will come and go.
