(Austin, TX) — The death of Las Vegas casino magnate Sheldon Adelson is expected to have an effect in the Texas legislature.
Adelson had been pushing to expand casino gambling in Texas, but Rice University political analyst Mark Jones says without his political influence, the plan is pretty much dead in the water. In addition to his political donations to Texas Republicans, Adelson also hired a number of lobbyists to push for casino gambling this session, which was already seen as a long shot.
The 87th Texas legislative session started on Tuesday.
