(Austin, TX)  —  Gov. Greg Abbott is setting the date for the special election runoff for the successor of former state Rep. Drew Springer, who is now a state senator.

The candidates, both Republicans, are Jacksboro attorney David Spiller and Nocona businessman Craig Carter.  They were the top two vote-getters in last month’s five-way special election.  The two other Republicans on the ballot have endorsed Spiller.

Carter is currently dealing with the loss of his 4-year-old daughter and his mother-in-law from a hit and run crash on I-35 last Sunday.  Early voting for the House District 68 runoff starts on February 16th.

The election is on February 23rd.
