(Austin, TX) — Starting Monday, Texas will allow people age 50 and up to receive the coronavirus vaccine.

The newly designated 1C group will be made up of people 50 and older.  Groups 1A and 1B include healthcare workers, staff and residents of nursing homes, people over age 65, and people with chronic medical conditions.  So far, nearly five-million Texans have received at least one dose, and about half that many are fully vaccinated.

State officials say hospitalizations and deaths have massively dropped since vaccinations started in January.
