Suspect In Burleson Cop Shooting Captured

(Burleson, TX) — A man wanted in connection with the shooting of a Burleson Police Officer is in custody.

49-year-old Jerry Don Elders was captured Wednesday afternoon in Gainesville following a chase.  Elders is accused of shooting Officer Joshua Lott multiple times during a traffic stop early Wednesday morning near Burleson High School.  Investigators say Elders also allegedly carjacked and kidnapped a Johnson County woman at her home on CR 802, a short time after the police shooting.  The woman was reportedly dropped off at the Joshua Police station and taken to a hospital where she later died.

Burleson Police Chief Billy Cordell says despite being shot in the neck; Officer Lott is expected to be ok.  Elders has a long criminal history.

Two other suspects remain at large.  The Texas Rangers are now handling the case.
