(Fort Worth, TX)  —  The Fort Worth Zoo is announcing the name of its youngest baby giraffe.

Social media users voted to name the calf Lucchese, after the Texas boot brand.  More than eight-thousand votes were cast, and Lucchese was the most popular choice.  The other options included Hickory, Jabali, Mwezi, and Thor.

Lucchese weighed in at 174-pounds when he was born last month to Kala and Walter.  He stepped into the African Savanna habitat on Monday for the first time.

Lucchese increases the number of the zoo’s giraffe herd to nine.
