American Airlines Canceling Flights Because Of Labor Shortages

(Fort Worth, TX) — American Airlines is canceling hundreds of flights, starting over the weekend and continuing in the weeks ahead.

The Fort Worth-based carrier says a shortage of labor is running head-on into an increase in demand as travelers take to the skies again. The airline says it’s so short-handed it doesn’t have enough staff to load food onto planes, or even to push customers who need to use wheelchairs.

American Airlines said its proactively canceling between 50 to 80 flights a day through mid-July, or about 1% of its scheduled flights.
