(Dallas, TX) — A nationwide blood shortage is approaching the point of affecting the availability of surgery in North Texas hospitals.
Dr. Jay Herd of Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center in Fort Worth says the pandemic severely lowered the number of blood donations. Carter BloodCare is asking the hospitals it supplies to evaluate their elective surgery schedules.
The agency says they’re not asking hospitals to delay elective surgeries just yet, but it may come to that.
