(Cleburne, Tx) – Johnson County District Attorney Dale Hanna says the state will be seeking the death penalty against a man charged with killing a Burleson woman during a carjacking.

39-year-old Jerry Don Elders is charged with capital murder in connection with the April shooting of a Burleson police officer and shooting death of Robin Waddell.  Elders allegedly forced Waddell to drive him in her truck in his effort to get away after shooting the officer.  The prosecutor says she attempted to escape, by crashing her vehicle at the Joshua Police Department and that’s when Elders reportedly shot her and left her there.  Waddell later died at the hospital.

Elders has plead not guilty to all charges.  According to the Cleburne Times Review, no date has been set for trial yet.

He remains at the Johnson County Jail on a $2 million bond.
