(Fort Worth, Tx) – The 6th largest school district in the state goes back to class today.

More than 82,000 students return to in person learning at Fort Worth ISD campuses.  Before the start of school, District Superintendent Kent Scribner put a mask mandate in place for students, staff and visitors, however late last Friday a Fort Worth District Judge placed a temporary hold on the mandate after a group of parents filed a petition for a restraining order.  In his ruling, the Judge said Superintendent Scribner was an unelected official with the school district and did not have the authority to set policy.

Sunday, a group of parents held a mock funeral and memorial near Eastern Hills High School, calling for Fort Worth ISD school board president Tobi Jackson to hold an emergency meeting to vote on a mask mandate.

The restraining order remains in effect until Aug. 26th.
