(Austin, TX)  —  Texas Republicans are continuing to promote a bill that opposes the teaching of critical race theory in schools.

State Representative Steve Toth of Montgomery County says the bill is in response to parents’ concerns about what they found out was being taught during virtual learning.  Teachers’ groups oppose the bill, which requires schools to publish teaching materials and activities online.

The bill is part of a nationwide effort to stop critical race theory and the 1619 Project from being taught in schools.

Toth says parents came to him upset that their kids were being taught America is a racist country.
