(San Antonio, TX) — It’s been hard for the service sector to attract workers — and keep them — during COVID.

The state of Texas is starting to provide childcare funding, and John McCord with the Federation of Independent Business says this will help a lot, because a lack of childcare is keeping many in the service sector home.  The Texas Workforce Commission is starting to offer 12 months of free childcare to low-income parents.

McCord says 45% of small business owners say they have staffing shortages and he says one of the biggest drivers is a lack of childcare due to COVID.
