(Austin, TX) — Most Democratic state reps have yet to return per diem money they promised not to accept during the quorum break over the summer.

In July, more than 50 Democratic members of the Texas House fled the state and went to Washington, D.C., in order to prevent a vote in Austin on an election integrity bill.  Many of them said they wouldn’t accept per diem pay during the special session, but most of them did, and only a few have returned it.

The state comptroller’s office says each rep received about $12,000 by direct deposit.
