(Fort Worth, Tx) – Residents of The Tower in downtown Fort Worth spent the night away from home after a gas leak forced the evacuation of the building located at 500 Taylor Street.

Atmos Energy says a construction crew damaged a natural gas pipeline near the intersection of West 5th and Taylor Streets at about 3 p.m.  As a result, nearby homes and businesses were evacuated, traffic was rerouted, and gas was shut off to a large part of downtown.

The American Red Cross set up an emergency shelter for displaced residents at North Fort Worth Baptist Church.

Atmos crews remained on the scene this morning.
