Uphill Climb Seen For O’Rourke In 2022 Governor’s Race

(Austin, TX) — Political analysts say Democrat Beto O’Rourke’s 2022 run for the Texas governor’s office won’t be an easy one.

In 2017, O’Rourke was little-known outside El Paso when he challenged GOP incumbent U.S. Senator Ted Cruz.  He lost that race, as the expected “blue wave,” in response to President Trump’s first two years in office, underperformed.  O’Rourke’s 2020 White House bid failed badly.  He has name recognition going into 2022, but it’s largely negative among Texas voters.

And since President Biden is unpopular in Texas, O’Rourke is expected to face a red tide in Texas and nationwide.
