(Austin, TX) — Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke claims Gov. Greg Abbott is stifling efforts to upgrade broadband Internet access in rural Texas.
O’Rourke is blaming the GOP incumbent for his June veto of a bill that would have helped replenish the Universal Service Fund. That fund supports Internet and phone services for more than a million rural Texas households.
Abbott explained that he vetoed the bill because it “would have imposed a new fee on millions of Texans.”
