(Colleyville, TX) — We’re learning new details about the man behind the hostage-taking incident at a North Texas synagogue.

Malik Faisal Akram arrived from England late last year.  The New York Times reports he flew into Kennedy International Airport and, on his travel documents, he listed his destination as a hotel there.  The feds say his arrival did not raise any red flags when it came to links to terrorism.  There’s still no word on why he traveled 1,600 miles to Texas where he held multiple people hostage at a synagogue in Colleyville.

Congregation Beth Israel’s Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker says after a ten-hour standoff Saturday, he threw a chair to distract Akram allowing the hostages to safely escape.
