(Austin, TX) — Texas energy officials are implementing an “aggressive grid management plan” as frigid air heads towards the Lone Star State.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas predicts the energy demand during the upcoming cold snap could match that of last year’s deadly freeze that knocked out the grid for nearly a week.

Despite the impending chill, ERCOT is confident Texans’ lights will stay on this year, citing landmark reforms by the state legislature that made the grid more “resilient and reliable than it has ever been.”
