(Eastland, TX) — Fires burning across North Central Texas are driving hundreds of families from their homes.

Fires known as the Eastland Fire Complex, fueled by dry conditions and driven by strong winds, have scorched nearly 40-thousand acres so far.  Some 475 families have been evacuated from the town of Gorman.  Several structures, including a church and the old police department building caught fire in the town of Ranger.

Evacuation orders are in effect for parts of Eastland, Brown, and Comanche counties.

As of early Friday morning, Texas A&M Forest Service posted on Twitter that the Eastland Complex Fire was only 2% contained.
