(Undated) — The Texas Department of Transportation is urging drivers to “Be Safe, Drive Smart” as part of National Work Zone Awareness Week.

TxDOT says work zone crashes killed 244 people last year, an increase of 33% over 2020.  With road work increasing around the state as temperatures warm, the agency recommends drivers follow posted speed limits and pay attention to challenging road conditions in work zones.

Highway workers and others are being encouraged to wear orange today as part of National Go Orange Day.  People can take pictures in their orange attire, then post them on social media with #Orange4Safety.
