(Salado, TX) — The National Weather Service is confirming that a tornado hit the Salado area, north of Austin, on Tuesday evening.
The agency confirmed the tornado at about 5:30 p.m. but didn’t say how strong it was. Bell County Judge David Blackburn stated in a news conference last night that the tornado traveled around seven-miles on the ground and injured 23-people, including one critically.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says at least five homes were destroyed amid widespread severe damage in the area.
I-35 was closed in both directions from Florence to Salado due to downed power lines on the highway.
