(Azle, Tx) – Azle police says a man died Sunday morning during an encounter with officers when he allegedly charged them with a knife.

Officers initially responded to call about a man with a knife making threats at a location in the 700 blk of Boyd Road.  The officers say the suspect refused commands to put the knife down.  He started coming towards them and that’s when the officers reportedly used “less lethal options” to stop his advance.  The man was taken to a hospital where he later died.  He’s been identified as 28 year old George J. Gordon III of Azle.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner has not yet listed a cause of death.  According to a press release from Azle PD, the responding officers did not discharge their service weapons during the incident.

The Texas Rangers have been called in to help with the investigation.
