(Fort Worth, TX) — The attorneys for the white North Texas ex-cop accused of killing a Black woman inside her home wants the trial delayed.
Aaron Dean’s defense team told a Tarrant County district judge today the lead attorney is seriously ill. They also asked for the trial to be moved out of the county due to pretrial publicity. The former Fort Worth police officer is charged with murder after Atatiana Jefferson was shot to death in 2019 while police responded to a welfare check. Body camera footage shows Dean open fire on Jefferson through a window without identifying himself.
Jury selection is supposed to start next week.
