(Centerville, TX) — The hunt is on for the convicted murderer who got away from an East Texas prison bus.

Texas Department of Criminal Justice says Gonzalo Lopez attacked a corrections officer Thursday, then jumped off the bus near Highway 7 and I-45 in Leon County.  The 46-year-old was given life in prison for a South Texas killing and attempted murder.

Lopez is Hispanic and was last seen in white prison garb.
