(Houston, TX) — Texas Governor Greg Abbott won’t be making a scheduled live appearance at the National Rifle Association’s convention in Houston today after all.

Abbott will instead be in Uvalde, site of Tuesday’s deadly school shooting.  The governor will give prerecorded comments that will be played at the convention.

Senator John Cornyn and Houston-area Congressman Dan Crenshaw were already out.  This morning, Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick dropped out.  In a statement, he says he did not want an appearance to bring more grief to the victims of the Texas school shooting, which happened about five hours away from Houston.

Former President Donald Trump and Senator Ted Cruz are still scheduled to appear.
