(North Richland Hills, TX) — A North Texas state senator is recovering after getting a kidney donation from his son-in-law.

North Richland Hills Republican Senator Kelly Hancock underwent surgery Wednesday after being diagnosed with Berger’s disease in the 1990s.  His son-in-law, Greg Cox, was discovered to be a match shortly after Thanksgiving.

Hancock tells NBC 5 he thinks organ donation needs to be promoted more often.
