Large Wildfire Threatens Dinosaur Valley State Park

(Glen Rose, Tx) – A wildfire in Somervell County has grown to more than 4,000 acres, forcing evacuations and threatening a state park.

Sheriff’s Office is asking people to stay away from the 1004, 1005, Loco Coyote area.  The fire has moved along CR 1004, northeast to FM 205 and in some areas has reached the Paluxy River.  The 4,000 acre Chalk Mountain Fire was listed at 10% contained as of Tuesday morning.

Dinosaur Valley State Park posted on Facebook that they are aware of the wildfire off the west park boundary.  Soft evacuations have begun here at the park of clearing out overnight campers and day users.  Park Rangers are onsite to ensure all visitor safety.  At this time, Park officials are advising everyone stay away from the park and highway 205 until further notice.

The Somervell County Expo Center is open for evacuees.  Anyone that needs assistance evacuating livestock or miscellaneous animals contact th Somervell County EOC at 254-898-3956.
